Travel
I've done so much business travel in the past month, that sometimes I'm not sure where I am! Early August found me in the Houston, TX area. Then on Paul's birthday, I was in the Dallas area. Spent three days there, mostly in a meeting room and in airports. Then, last week, I was in Scottsdale, AZ, making a presentation at another meeting. That trip wore me out. The two hour time difference was difficult, especially since my flights to and from were extremely early in the morning. I arrived home Friday afternoon, and Paul got here about 3 hours after me. He'd been in Aberdeen, SD, and put over 1,800 miles on the truck in four days. Consider the fact that he worked two out of the four days, too!
We were both so tired, that we didn't go anywhere over the weekend. We vegged out at home and slept a lot!
Iowa
Labor Day weekend in Iowa was great. We spent time with Dad and attended Rainsbarger Days. On Saturday morning, we went to a breakfast at the Presbyterian Church and ran into many people we knew. Love the small town community meals!
That afternoon, Dad, Karol, Jack and I went to the parade, and I saw several of my former students. Had a great time visiting with them. Paul stayed at the farm and mowed the lawn. (He's such a nice guy!)
Then, we all went to the dinner theater in the SR gym that night. It was lighthearted and fun. They had a pie auction following the performance, and I bought a sour cream raisin pie for Sunday dinner. The best part was the fireworks show after that. The night was cool and cloudless - a perfect night for the light show. Dad was responsible for ordering the fireworks, and he did an amazing job. It was terrific!
Sunday morning we attended the church in Eldora, then back to the farm where I put together a typical country Sunday dinner. Beef roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, rolls and strawberry jam. Of course, the pie topped it off.
Oh....we took our individually packaged frozen food to Dad. He should have enough to feed him for months! I think he was glad to get it.
Karol and I spent time in the afternoon sorting through Mom's jewelry. Dad had asked us to, but we had no idea how much jewelry she had. We found it stashed everywhere! All we did was get it all together and sort by type. Then we placed the different types in separate jewelry boxes to store until we divide it up. Dad observed the last of our sorting and kept exclaiming, "I can see I didn't have a tight enough rein on her!" We laughed a lot and shook our heads a lot, too. But it was a good feeling, and I didn't feel as sad as I thought I might.
This is the first I'd been back to the farm since Mom's funeral. It's so different, yet so much the same. Dad hasn't changed anything. He did let me throw out some of the dead flower arrangements, though. He's still grieving, as we all are.
Not much else . . .
Paul left for Kansas City today to work, but should be home late tomorrow night. I spend my time working. We're looking forward to our vacation to California - about a month away.
